This course is for street patrol officers/new detectives and community groups who need to understand the scope of the criminal street gang problem, history, current trends, methods of operation and safety concerns on the street.
Objectives:
- Define criminal street gangs.
- Identify criminal street gang members.
- Describe alliances and rivalries.
- Discuss commonly known street gangs and their history.
- Describe current recruiting methods.
- Define and identify transnational gangs and their influence.
- Describe current methods of operation.
- Interpret graffiti and tattoos.
- Apply heightened awareness and personal safety strategies when encountering gang members or associates.
