This course is for street patrol officers/new detectives and community groups who need to understand the scope of the criminal street gang problem, history, current trends, methods of operation and safety concerns on the street.

Objectives:

  • Define criminal street gangs.
  • Identify criminal street gang members.
  • Describe alliances and rivalries.
  • Discuss commonly known street gangs and their history.
  • Describe current recruiting methods.
  • Define and identify transnational gangs and their influence.
  • Describe current methods of operation.
  • Interpret graffiti and tattoos.
  • Apply heightened awareness and personal safety strategies when encountering gang members or associates.
